As a general rule, foreign documents have to be legalized in order to be recognized as official documents in another country.
Apostille or consular legalization – are methods to confirm document’s compliance with the current legislation of Ukraine or the legislation of the host country, establishing and certifying the validity of the document or the authenticity of the signature, the powers of the official who signed the document as well as the validity of the stamp used to seal the document.
The main difference between these two types of legalization – for consular legalization must be involved various inland authorities and diplomatic mission or consular post of the state of destination.
Ukraine joined the Hague Convention on the Simplified Authentication of Documents on 2002.
Originals or any copies of passports, military IDs, labor books, documents having the character of correspondence, weapons carry permits, vehicles registration certificates (technical passports), driver’s license, identity cards, legal acts
Documents issued by foreign diplomatic institutions (between member countries of European Convention on the Abolition of Legalization of Documents executed by Diplomatic Agents or Consular Officers)
